SFD Hybrid Expert Meeting

The expert meeting on “Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control” organized by the Serbian Pharmacological Society (SPS), is a hybrid event that will be conducted both live and via Zoom. This format allows for broad participation, enabling experts and stakeholders from around the world to engage in critical discussions about the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and strategies for effective infection control. The meeting will feature presentations from leading researchers and practitioners, offering insights into the latest developments in AMR research, policy changes, and practical approaches for infection prevention. Participants will have the opportunity to interact through live Q&A sessions, panel discussions, and breakout groups, whether attending in person or online. The hybrid model ensures inclusivity, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and collaborative solutions to combat AMR and enhance infection control practices. The SPS aims to advance understanding and promote action on these pressing public health issues.

Tasks

Organizing a medical hybrid expert meeting, combining live and Zoom formats, involves several key tasks to ensure a successful event. The event agency starts by collaborating with the client to define the meeting’s objectives, themes, and target audience. They select a suitable venue equipped with necessary audiovisual technology to support both in-person and virtual participants. The agency coordinates the setup of live streaming and video conferencing tools, ensuring seamless integration and high-quality connections. They manage logistics including speaker arrangements, invitations, travel, and accommodations for in-person attendees. Preparation of materials such as agendas, presentation slides, and digital handouts is also crucial. Marketing efforts include promoting the event through various channels and managing registrations for both live and virtual attendees. On the day of the meeting, the agency oversees the event schedule, handles technical support, and facilitates interaction between live and online participants. Post-event, they gather feedback, analyze engagement metrics, and provide insights for future improvements.

The Serbian Pharmacological Society is an association of scientific and professional workers dealing with drug-related issues from various perspectives. The initial core of the Society comprised pharmacologists from the Medical, Dental, Veterinary, and Pharmaceutical Faculties, as well as those from the Military Medical Academy.

Today, in addition to basic pharmacologists, the Society’s members include clinical pharmacologists, collaborators from pharmaceutical industries, pharmacists, biologists, chemists, physiologists, pathophysiologists, and others. Within the Society, the Clinical Pharmacology Section operates very successfully, including a number of clinicians engaged in drug testing.

At the beginning, members of the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacology, and Toxicology did not have their own association. From 1951 to 1978, they were members of the Society of Physiologists of Serbia (DFS), as a section of the Union of Physiological Societies of Yugoslavia – SDFJ (formerly the Yugoslav Physiological Association, Yugoslav Society of Physiologists – JDF). From 1978, members of our Institute became part of the Association of Pharmacologists of Serbia, as a section of the Union of Pharmacological Societies of Yugoslavia. At the time of the association’s establishment, the first president was Prof. Varagić, followed by Prof. Bogdan Bošković (VMA) and Prof. Milovan Krstić. Under the leadership of Prof. Krstić, a very successful researcher, the Society remained active through the 1990s, continuing fruitful scientific activity, international cooperation, and reorganization (establishing the Clinical Pharmacology Section). Later, Prof. Ranka Samardžić became the president of the Society from 1998 to 2002. From 2002 to 2005, the president was Prof. Kornelija Švajcer-Đaković, and from 2005 to 2008, it was Prof. Dubravko Bokonjić. The current president is Prof. Ljiljana Gojković-Bukarica, and the Society is still headquartered in Belgrade, at our institute’s premises. The Society has over 100 members.

In 1994, the Clinical Pharmacology Section of the Society was established. The founder and first president was Prof. Tomislav Kažić. Subsequent presidents were Prof. Milan Stanulović, Prof. Miloš Stojiljković, and the current president of the section is Prof. Ana Sabo. The Section is a member of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT). The Section has over 100 members.
