Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis
The National Symposium “Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis” brought together leading experts in rheumatology, orthopedics, and medical rehabilitation to exchange knowledge and improve the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, which represents one of the most significant health challenges of modern times.
The symposium program covered key topics, ranging from the definition and risk factors to modern diagnostic methods and the latest approaches to pharmacotherapy and prevention. The opening lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Predrag Ostojić, who highlighted the essential aspects of the disease and the importance of timely identification of risk factors. Dr. Olivera Radmanović presented current diagnostic methods, while Prof. Dr. Milan Petronijević discussed advanced pharmacological treatments for osteoporosis.
Special attention was given to vitamin D and calcium supplementation, presented by Prof. Dr. Sonja Stojanović, while Prof. Dr. Snežana Tomašević Todorović emphasized the significance of bone metabolism biomarkers in monitoring the disease. One of the key moments was the presentation of the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis by the Osteoporosis Working Group of the Serbian Rheumatology Association, delivered by Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Tomić Lučić.
In the final segment, the symposium addressed topics such as recommendations for physical activity (Doc. Dr. Tamara Filipović), surgical treatment of osteoporotic fractures (Dr. Slaviša Zagorac), and the consolidation of low-energy fractures (Dr. Olivera Ilić Stojanović).
The symposium underscored the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to osteoporosis management and provided a unique opportunity to share experiences and enhance clinical practice, directly contributing to improved quality of life for patients with this complex disease.
